About Us
Founded by Doris Phillips in 2004, The Circle of Love Foundation’s mission is to garner support and awareness of, and to provide hope to those who need it most: children in need in Alabama, Tennessee, and Virginia.
Through its members’ and many volunteers’ tireless work, and unparalleled passion for giving back to the future’s next great leaders, The Circle of Love has touched the lives of more than 9,000 children who would have otherwise gone without gifts on Christmas morning, or the most basic school supplies on the first day of school.
Since 2004 the organization and its parent company, RealSource Title Insurance and Real Estate Closings, have facilitated collecting financial and other donations to help these children. Above all else, The Circle of Love strives to let children in need know they have not been forgotten. They are not faceless. They are loved and are not without support or care.
Here is the Board of Directors for The Circle of Love Foundation
Doris Phillips, Founder
Birmingham entrepreneur and philanthropist Doris Phillips is the founder of The Circle of Love Foundation and the owner of the organization’s sponsoring company, RealSource Title Insurance and Real Estate Closings.
An energetic and compassionate woman, Doris started the Circle of Love to provide hope to those children who found themselves in the care of Birmingham’s shelters. A child of less fortune herself, Doris is passionate about giving back to her community.
The Circle of Love provides the opportunity for her to do just that. Doris and her organization bring joy and new possibilities to the forgotten children in her city, and she strives each day to touch the life of even one child in a way that empowers them toward a better future.
In her spare time, Doris enjoys exercising, listening to audio books, activities at the lake, and spending time with her husband Glenn.
Daina Smitherman, Senior Board Member
A title agent with RealSource, Daina Smitherman joined The Circle of Love Foundation in its early years. She was immediately drawn to the opportunity to give something back to the community and make a difference in the children’s lives who need it most.
Though she plays an important hand in the organization’s events and day-to-day business, her favorite part of volunteering is the special moments she gets to experience while delivering donations to the shelters supported by The Circle of Love.
When she is not helping those in need, Daina enjoys being outdoors, shopping and spending time with my family.
Kaylyn Victory, Treasurer
With a strong accounting background, Kaylyn Victory works as a bookkeeper for RealSource Title Insurance and Real Estate Closings. Kaylyn Victory has been involved with The Circle of Love Foundation since 2019. She became the treasurer for The Circle of Love Foundation in 2023.
As Treasurer, she monitors donations for upcoming campaigns. During Backpacks for Success, she helps determine how much each backpack with supplies will cost to make sure it is complete. She wants to make sure The Circle of Love Foundation is giving everything it can to these children in need.
Kaylyn loves helping others in small ways or any way she can and knows that one day she can help teach others how we help other people in need. Away from work and her volunteer activities, she loves spending time with family, reading, and repurposing furniture.
Blane Broadwell, Senior Board Member
As a board member, Blane Broadwell appreciates The Circle of Love Foundation and its mission of helping children. Blane works in the administrative area at Lake Homes Realty.
He first became introduced to the nonprofit organization when he was volunteering for one of The Circle of Love’s toy drives. Blane was impressed with how many people showed up to donate toys and volunteer their time. Those efforts allow children to be remembered and to wake up with toys on Christmas morning.
Once he realized how important giving back could be, Blane joined the board of The Circle of Love Foundation. He loves the logistical side of things for the back-to-school backpack drive and the collection of toys for Christmas. Blane appreciates that every donation, no matter how small, goes to help a child in need. While away from work and charitable efforts, he is practicing his patience and resetting his mind on the golf course after work and on weekends.
Mason Owens, Junior Board Member
Mason is a student at Oak Mountain Middle School, where he participates in cross country, track, and show choir. As a Junior Board Member, he applies his passion for serving others, which was honed through his experiences in Boy Scouts of America, Troop 533, to make a tangible impact in his community. Inspired by his mother’s own journey as a child, Mason aims to spread love and kindness through his involvement with the Circle of Love Foundation and envisions one day founding his own organization to further this mission.
Lydia Colvin, Junior Board Member
Lydia is a student at Helena High School, where she actively participates in the marching band as a clarinet player. Art is one of Lydia’s greatest passions; she is continuously honing her skills through various art classes. As a Junior Board Member, Lydia brings her generous spirit and organizing skills to the table.
