Donate Now to the Circle of Love’s 6th Annual Back-to-School Supplies Drive!
Students will be smiling a little brighter on the school bus this fall thanks to the generous donations provided by The Circle of Love’s 6th annual school supplies drive.
This year’s drive, which kicked off in July, will benefit the children of three Birmingham-area women’s and children shelters: Olivia’s House, Jessie’s Place and First Light.
“We work closely with each shelter to collect supply lists from the various schools their children attend,” explained Circle of Love Founder, Doris Phillips. “We also get information about the kids, like what grades they are in and their gender. We take care to tailor supplies a little bit to each child, even if it’s just making sure a Barbie-loving little girl doesn’t get a Ninja Turtles folder.”
Items to be collected include basic school necessities like paper and pencils, as well as markers, scissors, glue and backpacks. Typically, the children the Circle of Love supports range from three to 13-years-old.
After the final donations have been collected, Circle of Love volunteers will organize the supplies in the organization’s offices in Hoover, which will then be hand-delivered to the benefiting shelters.
“Every backpack, box or bag we provide is filled to the very top, which is one of the most rewarding parts of being in this organization,” Phillips said. “We know that because of our volunteers and donors, these children will feel a little bit more confident on their first days of school.”
